From Tokyo Narita Airport to Shin-juku station

There are many ways to come and the following is the easiest and most comfortable way.
When you arrive at Tokyo Narita international airport, take a JR Narita Express train to Shin-juku station. The ticket is available at the arrival lobby and at the station. The station is connected to the arrival lobby. All seats are reserved. It roughly takes 2 hours.

There are two train lines. Please take the Narita Express by JR (Japan Railway). Your destination should be Shin-juku.

For your info, another train is Keisei Skyliner. This one goes to Nishi-Nippori and Ueno. Although Skyliner is much faster, you need complicated transfer in the middle of Tokyo and I do not recommend this way.
Alternatively, you can take a limousine bus from Narita airport to Shin-juku station or Shin-juku bus terminal. They run frequently. When highway traffic is good, this is also a comfortable way. If you plan to take a taxi from Shin-juku, this option is attractive since you can easily find a taxi at Shin-juku bus terminal. But sometimes (actually quite often) you will be trapped in a heavy traffic jam, so this is not a very reliable way.

In Narita Express train

The train is equipped with comfortable seats. Luggage space and lavatory are also on board. They sometimes devide a train into two trains for different destinations once the train arrives at Tokyo station. Make sure you are sitting in the seat of your reservation.

From Tokyo Haneda Airport to Nakano

The most convenient way is to take a direct limousine bus from Haneda Airport to Nakano. You can buy bus ticket at arrival lobby. The bus stops right in front of Nakano Sunplaza Hotel and it takes only 45 min. However, the service is not frequent. Currently, departure times at Haneda Airport International Terminal are 1450, 1550, 1750, 1900, 2000, 2110, and 2235.
An alternative way is to take a limousine bus to Shin-juku Bus Terminal. This bus runs very frequently. At Shinuku Bus Terminal you can easily pick a taxi. The taxi ride from Shin-juku to Nakano costs roughly 2,000 JPY (see below). Shin-juku Bus Terminal is also connected to Shin-juku station.
If your luggage is not too large, you can also take commuter trains to Shinagawa, then to Shin-juku, and then to Nakano. Cummuter trains can be extremely crowded in the monrning and in the evening.

From Shin-juku station to Nakano campus

Shin-juku station is the biggest and busiest station in Japan, probably in the world. Be prepared ! :)

By train

Take a commuter train of Chu-oh Line Rapid Service outbound. It is an orage train. This train is sometimes so crowded that it is impossible to ride with your suitcase. Avoid rush hours in the morning and in the evening. Both Nakano campus and Nakano Sunplaza Hotel are on the north side of the station. So please take North Exit of Nakano station.

By taxi

From Shin-juku station, a taxi ride to Nakano campus (or Nakano Sunplaza Hotel) takes roughly 15 minutes. It usually costs 2,000 JPY. Most taxi drivers know Nakano Sunplaza Hotel, but it is better to prepare a paper sheet to describe your destination. Only some taxi drivers speak English. They usually accept credit card.

Nakano Sunplaza Hotel

The front desk is on the 16th floor of the building. They speak English. It is 2 minutes walk from North Exit of Nakano station to the hotel (very easy), and 5 minutes walk from the hotel to Nakano campus (you might want to have a map).

Basic information about Tokyo and Japan

Credit card is getting popular but you still need cash in many cases. I recommend you to have at least 10,000 JPY cash in your pocket.
Do not expect regular people speak English (although clerks speak English at airports). If you know Kanji, you can make a minimal communication by writing and reading Kanji.
Japan is a secure country but be careful especially when you are in downtown.
Many many people are in Tokyo. Crowdedness in Tokyo cannot be compared with New York, London, Paris etc. Everything is crowded everywhere, especially in the morning and in the evening. Commuter trains are JUST LIKE HELL (could be a nice sight-seeing).
As is known, everything is well organized in Japan. In addition, people are polite and friendly (in Japanese way, not in American way :). As for sight-seeing, it is only 5 min train-ride from Nakano station to Tokyo downtown (Shin-juku).
Various food is available and we are happy to host you in a traditional Japanese pub or restaurant.

We hope you enjoy your stay with us in Japan.
